Artist Bio – Jennifer Rios
Jennifer Rios is a multidisciplinary artist and founder of Jen is Dainty, born and raised in the heart of Chicago, Illinois. Growing up surrounded by the city’s rich blend of cultures, architecture, and creative energy, she developed an appreciation for diversity in both people and artistic expression. She now lives in Paducah, Kentucky.
Her work explores the whimsical side of life, often infused with themes of nostalgia and nature. Guided by curiosity and a constantly evolving creative drive, Jennifer embraces a wide range of mediums including crochet, drawing, painting, mixed media, and photography. Her ADHD plays a meaningful role in her process, encouraging experimentation and the freedom to move fluidly between forms.
Jennifer’s crochet pieces often take shape as playful dolls, mushrooms, cute monsters, and food-inspired creations, reflecting her love for the charming and imaginative. Her stylized line drawings capture a variety of subjects—from people and animals to everyday scenes—distilled into expressive, minimalist forms.
Balancing this softness, her work also ventures into the macabre. Select paintings feature imagery such as gas masks and plague doctors, introducing a darker, thought-provoking contrast to her lighter themes.
Her mixed media dioramas and sculptural pieces incorporate natural elements like branches and bones alongside discarded objects such as forgotten toys. These works evoke a sense of memory, decay, and rediscovery—bridging the gap between nature, nostalgia, and time. Similarly, her handcrafted wire cages often enclose organic materials, creating intimate spaces where nature is preserved and reimagined.
Through Jen is Dainty, Jennifer Rios invites viewers into a world where whimsy and darkness coexist, and where overlooked objects and fleeting memories are given new life.
